Installing on Windows
The first time you run the LymeScribe installer, Windows may show a security warning. That's expected: the installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows doesn't recognize the publisher and warns about anything it hasn't seen before. The app is safe — it's just new. A signing certificate is on the way, which will make these warnings go away in a future release. Here's how to get past them in the meantime.
1. "Windows protected your PC" (SmartScreen)
If a blue dialog appears saying "Windows protected your PC" or that Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting:
- Click the small "More info" link in the dialog.
- A "Run anyway" button appears at the bottom — click it.
- The installer continues normally.
2. "Do you want to allow this app to make changes?"
If Windows then asks whether to allow the app to make changes to your device, or notes an unknown publisher, click Yes. This is the normal Windows install permission prompt.
